They were an amiable enough pairing. Both elderly and charming in that endearing way that elderly people often are charming. With that glint in their eyes that hints at the rambunctious youths they once were.
One of them you could tell was always the more outgoing. A hearty laugh that accompanied the still coquettish toss of silver hair. While the other, though more reticent, conveyed a steady loving warmth. He was the one who you knew you could always confide in and everything would somehow always be ok.
On this eve, in a local ma and pa restaurant, this gentlemanly twosome were seated next to us. They leaned over to ask if we came here often. It was our anniversary. And I couldn’t help but gaze at this affectionate couple with the grateful realization that one day, many years from now, that could be us.
Happy Anniversary my sweetheart.
I love you with all my heart.
I spend a lot of time running to many places
But the only place I really want to be
Is with you……….
