A Matter Of Some Weight

I’ve been asked the same question quite a bit lately. And until now I really didn’t know the answer.

Now I do.

This morning I performed a ritual of divination to shed light on this repeated query. A ritual I had once religiously participated in daily. Sometimes twice and three times daily. But a ritual in which I no longer have faith. A ritual though which I still respect all the same.

In my past this ritual, or ceremony if you will, induced feelings of angst and trepidation. But today such feelings were strangely absent. Instead I approached the oracle more out of curiosity than obligation. I do not fear its wrath any more.

As I had been taught to do when I was still a child, I placed offerings at the base of its altar in the form of fabric and textile. And I readied myself for the oracle’s judgment. When the oracle finished with me I gathered up my offerings of fabric and textile and stepped away from its altar flushed with the oracle’s revelations.

My scale says that I have dropped 7 pounds in the last several months.

Not a huge amount. But on my small stature it is indeed noticeable. And it may make all the difference for the better this running season.

In my constant effort to be fitter and faster than before, I can’t wait to find out!

  1. Congrats on the loss!

    1. Thank you! πŸ™‚

  2. Wow! You are a tiny little guy to begin with (just like Meb…) Don’t know where you found the weight to lose. I creeped up five pounds over the winter and am back down around two (I usually oo dilate around 145 lbs. 150 is my panic number but I was hovering around there for a month or so. I hit 152 and now hovering around 148. Clothing was getting slightly snug but feeling better now. Don’t know how you do it around all of your baking, but you are an inspiration. Not get out there and win Boston…

    1. Thanks Raymond! I know you worry about your weight given your history. And I admire the remarkable transformation you’ve made with yourself πŸ˜ƒ

I have every belief that you will always be fit and trim from now on!

  3. I too, spent many years in fear of the wrathful judgement of the scales. Then one day I weighed myself post-run and saw 3.5lbs gone – dehydration of course. That moment was a revelation. Those numbers are just that: numbers. It was my brain, all along, telling the story to those numbers.

    1. Exactly!

You know last spring the batteries on my scale died at the same time the batteries on my kitchen scale died. The same kitchen scale I use to bake those baked goods Raymond mentions in his comment above. I only had one pair of batteries. I used them for the kitchen scale πŸ˜ƒ

I believe that if my clothes fit and I can run well then that’s what really matters.

My clothes still fit. They may even fit a bit better. Come race season I’m hoping my running is better too!
